Deon Derrico is setting the record straight about his mental health in the wake of his divorce from Karen Derrico.
The Doubling Down With the Derricos star took to Instagram and posted a video from his mother GG’s bedside at a hospital, where she was observed overnight from an undisclosed illness. After sharing that his mother is “doing very good,” Deon continued with what he called “a public service announcement.”
“I have a PSA — public service announcement — I am doing mentally great,” he said. “I really truly really am. It’s not a cover-up. It’s not a facade. I’m doing very good. Just like all of us, I’m dealing with a lot. I have a lot going on. A lot of you guys know what I have going on. But, no, I’m not suicidal.”
Deon said he felt compelled to clarify a recent post about the late Robin Williams.
“When I shared the story on my Instagram about actor Robin Williams, it was because he was truly loved by millions but his sadness didn’t allow him to move past those inner emotions!” Deon wrote in his lengthy caption. “So I shared that post to help any and everyone who’s possibly dealing with somethings and it’s causing grief in their lives! I’m not in ANYWAY SAD or depressed, I have never ever been suicidal!!!!”
Deon’s post comes just weeks after it was reported that Karen and Deon called it quits after they filed for divorce on June 4. Just two days later, a judgment was rendered. Karen and Deon share 14 children, including 13 minor children.TMZ previously reported that Deon and Karen are splitting legal and physical custody, and he’ll pay Karen $1,166 per month in child support while she bears the responsibility of the kids’ medical insurance.
In a statement to ET, Karen and Deon said, “Together, we remain unified in the parenting of our 14 beautiful children – their well-being is our priority. We thank everyone for their understanding and support as we move forward for the good of our family.”
Karen gave birth to all 14 of her children naturally, which included two single births (Darian, 18, and Derek, 13), twins (Dallas and Denver, 12), quintuplets (Deonee, Daician, Daiten, Deniko and Dariz, 10), twins (Diez and Dior, 6) and triplets (Dawsyn, De’Aren and Dyver, 4).
The family’s reality series, Doubling Down With the Derricos, has chronicled their family life since 2020.
Just last week, Karen shared during an Instagram Live session that she, too, is doing well following the divorce.
“I am doing as good as can be. The children are doing good,” Karen said, smiling. “It’s summertime, we definitely want to keep them all busy and occupied and that’s the plan right now.”
