Amy Schumer Slams on Critics of Her Appearance

In some respects, Amy Schumer is not surprised by the onslaught of criticism directed at her simply over her appearance. That being said, she, too, is human. She’s vulnerable, and she’s hurt over the ruthless and utterly unnecessary comments.

The Life & Beth star appeared on Amanda Hirsch’s Not Skinny But Not Fat podcast and the 42-year-old once again opened up about the hateful comments directed at her by online trolls.

“It doesn’t feel good when the whole internet’s mad at you,” she said. “Don’t get me wrong, I don’t wish that on anyone if they don’t deserve it, but it’s been a long time that people have been coming for me. It’s just about how I’m feeling about myself.”

Schumer’s adamant that her outspokenness has also made her an easy target.

“I think they’re mad that I’m not thinner,” she said. “I think they’re mad I’m not prettier. And that I still feel like I have a right to speak. And I think that they don’t want any woman to speak. I mean, what woman has ever opened her mouth and not been torn to shreds?”

Ahead of the highly anticipated release of season 2 of her hit Hulu show, Schumer sought to dial down the loud chatter about her appearance, and she did so with her trademark sense of humor.

“You’re right, it is puffier than normal right now,” said Schumer about her face in a recent Instagram post. And for those who are genuinely curious about her appearance, Schumer opened up about her ongoing battle with endometriosis, a condition she has bravely spoken about in the past. Describing it as a “medical and hormonal” challenge she’s currently facing, Schumer shed light on the often misunderstood and painful condition.

“I have endometriosis an auto immune disease that every woman should read about. There are some medical and hormonal things going on in my world right now but I’m okay,” she wrote in a lengthy caption. “Historically women’s bodies have barely been studied medically compared to men. The book ‘all in her head’ does a good job explaining this. I also believe a woman doesn’t need any excuse for her physical appearance and owes no explanation. But I wanted to take the opportunity to advocate for self love and acceptance of the skin you’re in.”

She continued, “Like every other women/person some days I feel confident and good as hell and others I want to put a bag over my head. But I feel strong and beautiful and so proud of this tv show I created. Wrote. Starred in and directed. Maybe just maybe we can focus on that for a little.”

Life & Beth is streaming now on Hulu.
